ILLUSTRATIONS

Changing perceptions and bringing fun and life through exciting visuals

• Cartoons   • Digital Art/Painting   • Pencil Drawings   • 3D Illustrations   • Storyboard

Illustrations go hand in hand with graphic design work. They can be such a powerful element to a design that it can change the entire feeling and behaviour of people towards a product or service. Illustrations can also be visual teaching tools in the form of educative and scientific diagrams.

As a long-time practicing traditional and digital artist, illustrating comes naturally to me. I execute every illustration with an enormous amount of thought and passion. My drawing style is versatile - from minimalistic and simple to highly detailed and realistic. Cartoon character designs in particular is my top talent. In this first section, you will see some of my best illustrations as 5 types of work:

Art Deco - construction building signage

Art Deco - construction building signage

This is an inspired Art Deco artwork for the barrier walls of a construction site which announces the new Elizabeth Quay Bar being built. This design gives a luxurious and high-end feel.

COLOUR ME Multivitamin energy supplement

COLOUR ME Multivitamin energy supplement

Attract great interest to a vitamin energy supplement with a brand of cartoon characters full of personality and vitality. Shown here are 3 brand mascots representing a flavour each: "Wild 'n Free Chick" is strawberry, "Dancing Office Man" is orange, and "Hot Buff Nerd" is lime.

Sushi Chef 2D platform game

Sushi Chef 2D platform game

Sushi Chef is a memorable and distinctive game character built for easy animation and game creation in the Unity program. This is a concept art that portrays the game's look and feel of fun and silliness.

Nerdy Cat illustration for book project

Nerdy Cat illustration for book project

Nerdy Cat is designed to be a learning mascot for my book design - "Nerdy Cat's Guide to Print." Nerdy Cat has a pencil texture and is very effective as an outline itself (coloured or black and white) and also placed over a coloured background with high contrast.

Afro Woman animation storyboard

Afro Woman animation storyboard

A storyboard that shows some of the best scenes of “Afro Woman.” Here, we see the potential lighting, camera angles and action shots.

Afro Woman - screen colour testing

Afro Woman - screen colour testing

"Afro Woman" is a short film animation in the making. This is a highly finished screen test shot with colour testing to scope out the look and feel of the final appearance on screen.

Matte painting - background

Matte painting - background

This is a digital matte painting designated to be a short film background. I turned it into a work of art by including some elements of interest that can be turned into a story - a minotaur creature on the right, man on the left, and trophy in the centre. It is titled "Man VS Minotaur - eyes on the prize."

Flower Angel - art nouveau style illustration

Flower Angel - art nouveau style illustration

"Flower Angel" is my concept art illustration of a superhero character design. To enhance the power and beauty of her portrait even more, I created a background inspired by the historical art style - Art Nouveau. This suited the mystical power she has and the entire artwork very well.

Tony Abbott - caricature drawing

Tony Abbott - caricature drawing

A caricature on Tony Abbott which shows my skill in accurately depicting a person and making creative exaggerations on their facial features (his ears). Other decorative elements surround Abbott that he is infamously known for in public such as wearing budgie smugglers, eating an onion, kissing babies (and making them cry), barring asylum seekers from entering Australia and stepping all over Julia Gillard in the media

3D Isometric infographic poster

3D Isometric infographic poster

This illustration project was one of my most technically challenging to create in terms of visual accuracy. I used the 3D Extrude & Bevel tool on Illustrator to create the 3D effect on each pieces of graphic elements. Dinosaur excavating equipments and the telescope needed careful referencing from real photographs. I also did a lot of research on the excavation process to add these accurate facts alongside the illustrations.

A study on corns

A study on corns

This corn illustration poster project incorporates very accurate still-life drawings that studied each part of its anatomy carefully - the entire fruit, kernel and plant. The end result is a very reliable and accurate scientific diagram of corns, along with accompanying text that gives a description about its history, genetic features and other interesting facts.

Corn anatomy studies #2

Corn anatomy studies #2

Another still-life drawing study of the entire corn and the plant it grows from. I honed in drawings techniques like colours, tone, lighting, shading, shadows, size and angle.

Corn anatomy studies #1 - with colour testing

Corn anatomy studies #1 - with colour testing

Colour test on parts of a corn and the plant with Faber Castell colour pencils. This “colour over print” illustration technique works by colouring over a printed version of the original pencil sketch which has been digitally scanned and modified into a lighter stencil colour like orange.

Corn anatomy studies #3 - with colour testing

Corn anatomy studies #3 - with colour testing

Another colour testing of the corn this time on the entire vegetable with roots and leaves attached.

Corn drawing with pencil

This was one of the earlier sketches of the corn to practice my analytical skills in drawing with high accuracy.
